Lake Forest Crowned MISSA

Crescent Sail Yacht Club, located in Grosse Pointe, Michigan north of Detroit, hosted MISSA's regional qualifier for the 2008 ISSA Team Racing Championship. Ten high school teams from Illinois, Michigan and Minnesota arrived Saturday morning arrived at the shore of Lake St Clair, under dark overcast skies and winds from the southwest at 10-15 knots. Twelve teams representing high schools from Illinois, Michigan, and
Minnesota arrived in Chicago to compete in MISSA's 2008 Mallory Double Handed Championship. Chicago Yacht Club's Belmont Station hosted the competition for two Midwest qualifying berths at the ISSA National Championship Mallory Cup Regatta. GPN Dominates Invitational

Eighteen teams representing a record turnout of twelve Illinois, Michigan, and Wisconsin high schools traveled to compete in the fourth annual High School Invitational Regatta hosted by Chicago Yacht Club's Belmont Station. With steady rain and 38 degree air temperatures, the teams sailed out of the harbor to the open waters of Lake Michigan. Principal Race Officer (PRO) Dick Schweers established a windward leeward course to take advantage of the fresh westerly winds at 8 to 12 knots.

ISM Team Race Regatta Postponed

After speaking with Gordy Bowers, Director of the Lake Minnetonka Sailing School this afternoon, it was agreed that the regatta had to be postponed due continued ice cover on the lake. We agreed that the regatta would be moved to May 17, 2008 and would still be a two day regatta. Please mark your calendars appropriately and make every effort to support this event.

ISM Takes The MISSA Icebreaker

Thirty high school sailors traveled to Chicago to compete in the annual Ice Breaker Regatta hosted by Chicago Yacht Club's Belmont Station. Aptly named for the frigid 35 degree Lake Michigan water temperatures typical of this time of year, the teams arrived for the first regatta of the spring sailing season representing six Illinois and Minnesota high schools.

ISSA 2008 Single-Handed
Championship Regatta Report

October 28, 2007 - Corinthian Yacht Club, Seattle WA
36 High school sailors traveled from all over the country to Seattle WA and the Corinthian Yacht Club to compete in the ISSA 2008 Single-Handed Championship. The racing was held on Puget Sound, due west of the yacht club. Each of the seven Interscholastic Sailing Association ("ISSA") districts sent its top Laser sailors to compete in this National Championship. MISSA sent 4 sailors to the national championship: Ryan Pesch (senior, Lake Forest Academy) and Will Howard (sophomore, Lake Forest High School) in the Full Rig class and William Haeger (sophomore, also from Lake Forest High School) and Drew Shea (sophomore, New Trier High School) in Radial Rig. Loyola Takes Halloween Regatta Title

Mild temperatures, but chilly waters, welcomed sailors to the Lake Forest Sailing Center on the western shore of Lake Michigan for the annual Halloween Spectacular Regatta. The event included sailors from Illinois, Michigan, and Wisconsin representing twelve high schools of which ten were full teams. Several high schools entered more than one team, bringing the varsity fleet size to nineteen. Making their first MISSA appearances of the fall were Badger and Big Foot from Wisconsin.

2007 MISSA Cressy Qualifier

Twenty four sailors representing high schools from Illinois, Michigan, and Minnesota, traveled to Minneapolis over Columbus Day weekend to competed in the Midwest qualifier for the ISSA Single-handed Championship. Participants competed in separate Laser full rig and radial rig divisions on the waters of Lake Minnetonka. The event was hosted by Gordy Bowers and the Lake Minnetonka Sailing School. Format Change: Selecting Great Oaks MISSA Representatives
Recently several team representatives have asked how we can reduce the strain and effort required to attend MISSA regattas. Geographically we have a large District that requires 12 - 14 hours to go from one side to the other. The concern many have is that such travel requirements may have a negative effect on our student's school work and grades.
